KNUST’s University Act, 2025 has established a strong financial accountability framework, anchoring financial management and oversight firmly in law.
Key provisions include the establishment of an Internal Audit Unit, clearly defined borrowing powers, and mandatory reporting to the Auditor-General, the Minister of Education and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
The Act also provides that student intake numbers, particularly fee-paying admissions, will now be approved by GTEC in consultation with the Minister of Education.
University officials say the financial reforms enhance transparency, strengthen oversight and align the University’s operations with national public financial management laws.
